Province of Zeeland was named winner of the European in innovation award for procurement, the Procura+ Award, on Nov. 23, 2021. This was announced at an online meeting of the ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability).

In 2017, Zeeland took stock of what impact public procurement could make on achieving the SDGs. Then the province began monitoring progress on the SDGs on the MVI Platform. In 2020, SDG dialogues were held with NGOs, policy officials, researchers, suppliers and buyers as input for the new SRI plan. Based on urgency, policy aspirations and dialogues, seven SDGs were selected on which every procurement must make an impact in the coming years.
